Zain programmed and produced the first of Free Word’s new themed Seasons, championing the next generation of artists alongside today’s most exciting voices, taking on urgent topics of our time through unique formats.
The season partnered with an incredible array of artists, activists and organisations including P Money, Lowkey, Momtaza Mehri, Kareem Parkins-Brown, Zia Ahmed, the Runnymede Trust, gal-dem, TRENCH and more. The season explored everything from the surveillance of vulnerable communities to a nation’s private shame, secret taboos to the censoring of female bodies. Formats included performance, film, poetry, visual art, debate, discussion and workshops. As part of the season, Zain co-produced and directed a visual poem, The Moon Is A Meme written by poet and playwright, Zia Ahmed.
